My background in professional dog training started when, having joined Kent Police in 1981, I joined the Kent Police Dog Section as a general police dog handler in 1989. I went on to train and handle several German shepherds for general-purpose duties and in the role of firearms support dog for several years. I also handled a Belgium Malinois in the role of a non-compliant (attack) dog. I have also trained and handled several springer spaniels in the roles of drugs detection and explosives detection dogs.
For the last six years of my service, I was a police dog instructor with Kent Police, undertaking the planning and delivery of courses for novice and experienced handlers and their dogs. This was at both initial and refresher training level in the roles of General Purpose Duties, Drugs and Explosives Detection, Firearms Support and Non-Compliance roles.
Along with the my training duties, I was part of the team that undertook the annual licensing and testing of the dogs in these roles.
I also carried out assessment course for police officers who had applied to become a police dog handler.
I achieved accreditation at The regional Police Dog School at Surrey Police both as a General Purpose Dog Instructor and as an Explosive Detection Dogs.
I started working with private owners and their dogs in 2008 whilst I was still employed as police dog instructor and in 2011 when I retired from the Police, I was able to totally dedicate my time to working with owners and dogs, both on a 1 to 1 basis and with classes.Every dog is unique. That’s why I tailor my training where required depending on the needs of your dog. I use positive reinforcement methods including food, and toy rewards and encourage owners to use reward-marker training methods (clicker) and am fully insured.
I understand the need for training that reflects the real world which is why I focus on recall training and calm lead walking and behaviour in proximity to other dogs, all essential elements in achieving a clam, responsive dog that is happy and balanced.
I aim to give you the knowledge and teach you the techniques to train and manage your dog on a daily basis, whether you at one of my classes or training your dog at home or out on your walks.
My goals are your goals in what you want for your dog and I am totally committed to every owner and dog that I work with.
There is no bigger pleasure than seeing the progress both owners and their dogs make and without doubt is the most rewarding aspect of what I do.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my website and I very much hope that I get the opportunity to work with you and your dog.
